 Dear Disaster Diary,

Politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
- Charles de Gaulle

The recent weather extremes in Canada and California offer a troubling glimpse into the increasing challenges we face.

While some continue to engage in political games, we must face reality: the climate crisis is here and now, and it does not adhere to party lines.

California, once the symbol of the American dream, has now become a laboratory for weather disasters.

But amidst the floods, there is hope, and that hope is carried by a liberal governor. He has a plan, which is more than can be said for many other politicians.

On the other side of the continent, in Nova Scotia, however, we see a different reality. A Premier of the Progressive Conservatives who may admit that the climate is changing but still lacks a clear plan to address this change.

It is time for political leaders of all parties to recognize that the climate crisis is not a matter of party platform but an existential threat that requires concrete and immediate action. As natural disasters increase and the cost of living rises, we cannot afford half-hearted solutions.

Liberals need Canadians to believe in the existence of a magical land where you can have both belching smokestacks and clear blue skies.

After all, who needs inconvenient truths when you can have the illusion of having your cake and eating it too?

On the other hand, Conservatives seem to have made their choice clear: they'd pick the smokestacks over the blue skies any day.

Because let's face it, when did a blue sky ever turn a profit? It's all about the bottom line, baby, and if that means sacrificing the environment for a few extra bucks, well, so be it.

The Conservative climate paper, if you can even call it that, reads more like a wish list than a plan.

It's like crossing your fingers and hoping for the best while the world burns around you. Because who needs concrete actions when you can just close your eyes and pray that everything will magically fix itself?

Voters, especially those on the east coast of Canada buried under 150 cm of snow and the residents of California who must save their homes from floods, will no longer tolerate political maneuvering.

It is time for real leadership and decisive action to curb the climate crisis and protect our communities.
