Canadians boycott US goods & cancel holidays over Trump's tariffs
You don’t need to cross a burning border to know the U.S. is a nation on fire.
Mass shootings every other day.
Politicians selling out to oil lobbies and militias.
A former president threatening to annex Canada and calling our Prime Minister "dishonest and weak." Why the hell would any Canadian still willingly vacation in this flaming dumpster of dysfunction?
Answer: They shouldn’t.
And the good news? They’re not.
Canadians are cancelling U.S. travel in droves — and it’s hitting hard. In February 2025, car trips back from the U.S. dropped 23% year-over-year.
Airlines like WestJet are axing routes due to lack of demand. U.S. travel companies are watching bookings evaporate like truth at a Trump rally.
This isn't just a trend. It's a movement.
“A 10% drop in Canadian travel would cost the U.S. economy $2.1 billion and 14,000 jobs,” says the U.S. Travel Association.
That’s not symbolic — that’s economic warfare. Peaceful. Legal. Devastating.
Canadians have discovered a powerful truth: if you’re disgusted by authoritarianism, racism, gun lunacy, or environmental terrorism, you don’t have to fund it.
Welcome to Hell, Here’s Your Room Key
Let’s take a quick tour of the “United” States in 2025:
-
Mass shootings have become so frequent the media can’t keep up. In 2024, there were 656 mass shootings — nearly two per day, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
-
Climate destruction? Trump called climate change “a hoax,” gutted the EPA, and pulled the U.S. from the Paris Agreement. Now he wants to ramp up coal exports and strip protections from federal lands.
-
Civil rights? Gone. Trump’s Supreme Court has gutted voting rights, abortion rights, and now threatens LGBTQ+ protections. The country is backsliding into the 1950s with assault rifles.
And it gets worse.
Reports have emerged of Canadian citizens detained at U.S. border crossings, interrogated for hours, phones searched, and some even refused entry — especially those of Iranian descent. A woman from British Columbia was detained for two weeks, accused of violating entry terms despite holding valid documents.
A Canadian tech CEO told The Globe and Mail:
“We’re telling staff to travel with burner phones and wipe their social media clean before crossing into the U.S. It’s just not safe anymore.”
Read that again. Canada’s white-collar workers are preparing for border crossings like they’re entering a war zone. Because they are — a war on dignity, democracy, and decency.
Florida, Arizona, Michigan: You Want Our Dollars? Earn Them.
Trump may sit in Mar-a-Lago, but the economic blowback is national. Florida is the #1 U.S. destination for Canadians — and it’s also where democracy went to die in 2020. Let them feel the cost.
Arizona? Arizona criminalized immigrants, banned books, and loves its open-carry laws. Let them enjoy their desert silence.
Michigan? A critical swing state that barely shakes off Trumpism. Want a wake-up call? Lose our tourism dollars and feel the heat in 2026.
Let’s be blunt: if we keep funneling billions into red states, we’re complicit in their fascist backslide. This isn’t just about Trump. It’s about the whole system that enables him — and profits off us.
Vote With Your Wallet, Walk With Your Feet
Some say boycotts don’t work. Tell that to the apartheid regime in South Africa, which collapsed in part due to sustained economic pressure. Tell that to companies that crumble under public shaming and lost revenue.
Tourism is discretionary. That means it’s optional. And right now, it’s an ethical choice.
Canada’s tourism sector is more than ready to take in the displaced dollars. Domestic destinations like Niagara, Tofino, Whistler, and Prince Edward County are seeing surges in bookings. Even The Sunday Times in the U.K. asked,
“Is Vancouver now cooler than Seattle?”
Answer: hell yes.
Why line up for TSA pat-downs when you could be sipping wine in the Okanagan? Why risk racist interrogation at U.S. Customs when you could be kayaking in Algonquin?
Don’t Write Off Americans — Just Their Leaders
Not all Americans are MAGA cultists. Many are just as horrified. And they’re still coming here. U.S. visits to Canada are only down 8%. That means thousands of Americans are still seeking refuge in a country that values health care over handguns.
So let’s welcome them. Show them what sanity looks like. Every U.S. tourist dollar spent in Canada is a counter-tariff. A vote for democracy, peace, and actual maple syrup.
The Final Blow: Stop Funding the Madness
Let’s stop pretending the U.S. is just a “different” country. It’s a broken one — and it’s breaking everything it touches. From the climate to global diplomacy to the very idea of truth.
You can’t vote in U.S. elections. But you can defund their dysfunction.
Cancel the Vegas trip. Skip the Florida resort. Drive past the Buffalo malls.
Canada doesn’t need America. America needs a wake-up call.
And maybe — just maybe — the sound of silence from 2 million missing Canadian tourists will be louder than any Trump tweet.
Sincerely,
